Snazzy Brew is the kind of spot that fits seamlessly into a wander through York’s historic High Petergate. This cafe offers a straightforward but thoughtfully curated selection of coffee, sandwiches, and homemade cakes, making it a natural pause point for both locals and visitors exploring the city center.

The atmosphere leans towards casual and welcoming, with charming period features like old floorboards that nod to the city’s character. The seating extends beyond just the front room, with space to the rear hinting at a potential garden area, though currently the spot feels more tuned for takeout or a quick caffeine break rather than lingering all day.

Snazzy Brew’s coffee menu hits familiar notes with options like flat white, latte, and Americano, and it’s clear that there’s care behind the barista skills. Pairing these drinks with their cakes—such as the coffee cake, red velvet, or the highly recommended cherry and caramel sponge—feels like a genuine homemade experience rather than a bakery display. Sandwiches like bacon & butter or falafel with hummus offer a solid light lunch choice without overcomplicating things.

The shop attracts a mix of people: those popping in for a friendly chat over coffee, people shopping or working nearby grabbing a quick bite, and tourists seeking a modest, authentic local cafe experience. Morning to early afternoon seems best for catching the freshest cakes: they tend to sell out by early afternoon, indicating steady local interest without needing hype.

While still settling into its rhythm—undoubtedly a work in progress in some ways—Snazzy Brew occupies a convenient spot within York’s city walls, offering a relaxed, approachable environment. It works well for anyone after uncomplicated quality: good coffee, real homemade cakes, and a spot to pause amid York’s steady stream of footsteps and sightseeing.

Only saw this little shop by chance so decided to pop in, we each had a coffee and a slice of their homemade cake and it didn’t disappoint. Warm friendly atmosphere so will definitely be coming back.

Amazing little coffee shop. Whilst I didnt have food, the cakes looked amazing and most had already sold out by 1300hrs still plenty to choose from. Very friendly staff and skilled. The stylish period cafe fits into the city walls. Well worth a stop.

New, only been open two weeks. Central location. Lovely old floorboards. Place looks very incomplete, unfinished and like a work in progress and more geared up for takeout at the mo, though it does have a sizeable area to the rear which could be an attractive garden area at some point. Friendly and pleasant chap serving. Milk alternatives available. I was going to have a haunch o cake with my cuppa until he said, "£13 please." Yikes, super pricey so just had a brew. It was a big piece of cake but £8.50.... ! Then he said, "We get a lot of tourists" which bemused me somewhat as to why would that affect the price. Then I remembered mention of a launch of the Yorkshire Pounding so at £1.50 I ordered one of those which is a Yorkshire pudding with cheese. Cor, it was tiny! Not much bigger than the metal disc on the table. Yes, tasty, but gone in a mouthful. Always good to see new businesses setting forth on their journeys. Think this one has a way to go yet, but I do wish them well in their venture.
